A new website will boost the dissemination of the actions proposed by the Autonomous Region for the ecological transition in construction

'Hacialaciudadsostenible.carm.es' will compile the measures developed as part of the Sustainable Construction and Architecture Strategy for the Region of Murcia

The Regional Ministry for Development and Infrastructure has set up a new website with the aim of boosting the dissemination of the actions to stimulate the ecological transition in the construction sector, through the new model proposed by the Sustainable Construction and Architecture Strategy of the Region of Murcia (EACS),

The online platform accessible through hacialaciudadsostenible.carm.es/ or eacs.carm.es/, will lay out relevant information to everyone involved in the building process, which could facilitate the transition towards a circular model in the building sector in the Region of Murcia.

The general director of Territory and Architecture, Jaime Pérez Zulueta, highlighted the regional government's commitment to the "transition process towards friendlier architecture that creates cities that care for people". He explained that the new website aims to give visibility, transparency and reach to the EACS developed by the Autonomous Region, and help to transmit to society the benefits provided by sustainable construction and architecture.

"The EACS is a platform for coordination and cooperation for all of the actors involved, and its aim is to provide support and backing for actions that promote and encourage the design of sustainable, healthy and environmentally friendly buildings," said Pérez Zulueta.

As well as tracking the actions developed as part of the Strategy, the platform will also show the success stories from the Region of Murcia, and it will be possible to access information on all of the training courses on sustainable construction and architecture, consult regulations and reference websites, as well as send suggestions and participate actively in it.

Improving the health of people

"With the Strategy, we want to promote concrete measures to improve the health of people in their homes and reduce the energy consumption of housing," stated the director. He recalled that it is part of the Circular Economy Strategy for the Region of Murcia 2030, and it is in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Urban Agenda 2030 of the European Union.

He said that the EACS is the roadmap for the transition from a linear economic model to a circular model in the building sector in the Region of Murcia. It covers all of the phases of the building process: product, construction, use and end of life of the buildings, all from the perspective and with the support of a sustainable city model.

Furthermore, it promotes a culture of prolonging the useful life of buildings, encouraging their maintenance or renovation, as well as the recovery of construction and demolition waste, which will foster an industrial symbiosis with other production sectors.

"It also encourages the use of materials and components that minimise the water and carbon footprint, and modular construction systems that make it possible to dismantle the building in such a way that the products can be reused and recycled," explained Pérez Zulueta.

The strategy is the result of an important participatory process. For it, a technical panel was created, which included representatives of the regional and local administrations, teaching and research staff, the business sector, professionals and technicians, and citizen and user representatives.
